Mimesis Art Museum presents a solo exhibition by artist Hyein Lee titled 《Eternal sunset in my mind》, running until September 21.

Based on personal memories and sensory experiences from the field, Lee has portrayed surrounding landscapes. Early in her career, she relied on memories of specific places, later insisting on plein air painting to directly engage with her subjects. Recently, she has returned to the depths of memory, creating works rooted in these reflections.

Though completed through different methods, her paintings share a commonality: rather than pursuing mere physical resemblance, they capture impressions and embrace chance encounters both on and beyond the canvas. This approach can be understood as an attempt to gaze beyond visible appearances toward essence, a painterly practice seeking a genuine relationship with the encompassing world.

The exhibition 《Eternal sunset in my mind》 traces this artistic process in reverse chronological order, demonstrating how this approach has persisted despite shifts in time and style. Furthermore, through works that unfold the imperfection of memory and the ephemerality of sensation on still surfaces, the exhibition explores painting’s potential as a medium that simultaneously connects moments in time and space.
