Mimesis
Art Museum is presenting 《MIMESIS AP9: Euphoria》, the ninth exhibition in the Mimesis Artist Project series, on view
until June 29. This ongoing project introduces the artistic worlds of painters
between the ages of 35 and 45, who explore the social role of the artist
through their work. Selected through an open call, Shin Junmin, Lee Sejun, and
Yumi Chung are featured in this exhibition, which highlights their painterly
experiments.
“Euphoria,”
originating from the Greek language and passing through Latin to modern
English, refers to a state of intense happiness and lasting joy. Shin Junmin
captures the powerful energy of light, Lee Sejun draws on the full range of
images found in daily life, and Yumi Chung immerses herself in the vast, fluid
movements of nature, such as water or wind. Through their works, each artist
explores this heightened sensation, ultimately encountering a state of
euphoria.

The works of these artists seem to depict images detached from reality—worlds that exist in a different dimension, separate from physical space. The artists, in creating such images, appear to live simultaneously in parallel universes, moving fluidly between reality and the canvas. Their personal experiments unfold on the stage of the exhibition, and as these experiments encounter the audience, they hint at the possibility of expanding into a collective experience of euphoria.

As the exhibition begins, visitors embark
on a journey of euphoria within the Mimesis space. Guided by Yumi Chung’s
brushstrokes—delicate yet vast, like a subtle breath—and the natural light
flowing along curved surfaces, the audience is drawn into the exhibition. Lee
Sejun’s canvas, where images of daily life and the surreal, the meaningful and
the mundane coexist in a visual puzzle, begins to blur the boundaries of the
physical space. Following this, Shin Junmin’s vivid light and darkness erupt
across the canvas like an unfiltered cry of joy, resonating through a
geometric, immersive environment.
Through this exhibition, the artists aim to
manifest an ideal state in the real world and share it with the
audience—ultimately opening the door to a utopian experience.
