DOOSAN Art Center DOOSAN Gallery presents the DOOSAN Humanities Theater 2025 Exhibition 《Ringing Saga》 through July 12. DOOSAN Humanities Theater, the annual program hosted by Doosan Art Center, is a platform where scientific, humanistic, and artistic imaginations converge. The program seeks to pose fundamental questions and foster critical thought about the society we live in today from a variety of perspectives. In 2025, under the theme of “LOCAL”, the program presents three performances, one exhibition, and eight lectures.

The exhibition, 《Ringing Saga》, begins its exploration from Jongno, the neighborhood where DOOSAN Art Center is located. The project reimagines and reconstructs Jongno as a place where daily life, memories, history, and sensory experiences converge. It features the work of five artists — Donghee Koo, Bokyung Kim, Jinseon Ahn, Eusung Lee, and HongLee, Hyunsook — and includes a total of 18 works, encompassing painting, sculpture, installation, and video.

At the heart of Seoul, the Jongno district is filled with the vibrant and noisy scenes of everyday life. From Gwangjang Market and Bangsan Market to rows of pharmacies and hardware stores, this area is a mix of the old and the traces of urban redevelopment. Tourists, local residents, and merchants mingle here, forming a living cross-section of the city. Jongno is a space that is open to everyone, yet layered with diverse experiences and emotions. 《Ringing Saga》 explores both the universality and specificity of this place, weaving new narratives of adventure onto its storied landscape.

The exhibition title ‘Ringing Saga’ combines the idea of something resonating or vibrating with life (“ringing”) and the grandeur of an epic or tale of adventure (“saga”). The exhibition seeks to reframe familiar urban scenes through unfamiliar sensations. Participating artists Donghee Koo, Bokyung Kim, Jinseon Ahn, Eusung Lee, and HongLee, Hyunsook act as discreet observers and explorers of the city, weaving together layers of public time and private memory embedded in Jongno.

While 《Ringing Saga》 begins with concrete scenes from reality, it continually breaks away from linear time, generating a unique temporal and spatial experience. After viewing the exhibition, visitors may find themselves returning to the streets of Jongno with a renewed and transformed perspective.
