TRIBOWL, an art space operated by the Incheon Foundation for Arts and Culture, is presenting the special exhibition 《Fake Alive》 through December 13.

Humans tend to believe that whatever moves is alive and that whatever responds is a living organism. Yet the world contains living beings that remain still, as well as things that move incessantly despite being lifeless.

Questioning the criteria for “being alive” that humans have long claimed as their own, the exhibition traces the movements and interactions of different entities, including nature, machines, and humans.

Perhaps humans are beings who not only render the world alive, but also perform the role of “pretending to be alive” with the greatest skill, navigating the routines, habits, and systems of everyday life. Between the living and the nonliving, Fake Alive asks what we mean by life and whom we believe to be alive.

Moving beyond an anthropocentric perspective, the exhibition invites us to rediscover the meaning of “being alive” and reflect on the everyday lives we have staged as if we were “pretending to be alive.”
