Art Sonje Center presents the group exhibition 《off-site 2: Eleven Episodes》 from August 26 to October 26 at Kukje Gallery K2 and (TOGETHER)(TOGETHER).

This exhibition explores multi-layered narratives of gender and queerness through the works of eleven artist teams who investigate women’s, queer, and intersectional identities in the Korean art scene.

Participating artists include Sojin Kwak, Ru Kim, Moon Sanghoon, Jaeyun Sung, Yagwang, Hiju Yoon, Chang Younghae, Jo Hyunjin, Jimin Hah, Sol Han, and Hong Jiyoung. The exhibition examines questions of contemporary society and identity as perceived by young Korean artists born between the late 1980s and the 2000s.

This exhibition continues Art Sonje Center’s ongoing exploration of site-specific curatorial practices. Over the years, Art Sonje Center has reflected on the historical contexts embedded within physical sites while transforming both interior and exterior spaces of the museum—spaces not conventionally used as galleries—into stages for sculptural and spatial experiments, thereby examining the meaning of “placeness” from multiple perspectives.

The first iteration, 《off-site》 (2023), unfolded across functional areas of the museum rarely accessible to visitors, ranging from the backstage of the Art Hall to the rooftop garden. off-site 2: Eleven Episodes marks the second edition of this series, extending beyond Art Sonje Center to take place at Kukje Gallery K2 and (TOGETHER)(TOGETHER).

From September 3 to 6, ‘Frieze LIVE’ will feature performances by Yagwang, Chang Younghae, Ru Kim, and Jimin Hah at Dosan Park, Kukje Gallery K2, and (TOGETHER)(TOGETHER). Throughout the exhibition period, participating artists will also host talks to introduce their works and creative processes.

In this exhibition, “placeness” extends beyond the boundaries of physical space. It expands into all arenas where social meaning is inscribed and embodied—such as the body, institutions, and systemic structures—examining how gender and power operate and manifest within them. Through practices that unsettle the frameworks imposed by society, the participating artists present eleven episodes that resist reduction to a single narrative or medium.
