The
Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art is presenting a special exhibition on the climate
crisis, 《Even on the day when waiting ends》, as part of ‘2025 Site of Contemporary Art,’ on view through
October 26.
Inspired
by the poem of the same title by poet Kim Hyung-Young (1944–2021), the
exhibition seeks to view the recovery from human-caused climate disasters
through the perspective of nature.
《Even on
the day when waiting ends》 is grounded in the
recognition that, compared to the enduring cycles of nature—sun and moon, wind
and waves, earth and sea, trees and rivers—humans may be nothing more than
fleeting beings. In this age of dramatic change marked by global warming and
climate crisis, the exhibition calls for shared empathy and attentiveness to
the dialogue between sea sand and wind, rivers and trees, humans and the
artificial environment.

The
participating artists explore themes related to renewable energy—highlighted as
an alternative to the depletion of fossil fuels and the issue of global
warming—through indirect and metaphorical approaches.
《Even on
the day when waiting ends》 sensitively senses the
rapidly approaching future and proposes, through art, moments of slow and
thoughtful response. Rather than serving as a vehicle for loud messaging, the
exhibition seeks to offer an opportunity to encounter the grandeur and intricacy
of nature through art, inviting a sense of awe in its presence.
