SEOUL presents a solo exhibition 《sunkiss》, by artist Moonsick Gang (b. 1986), until March 8.
Gang is
an artist who works across diverse fields, with a focus on graphic design yet
unconstrained by specific domains. Rather than converging into a complete
narrative, his work explores the process itself, continually expanding each
piece as a "potential possibility." By constructing a non-linear and
fluid continuity that transcends rigid rules or conventions, Gang offers
viewers an opportunity to imagine new possibilities.

The
large-scale installation series ‘sunkiss’ (2024), which surrounds the walls in
this exhibition, draws inspiration from images taken from tourist brochures
that Moonsick Gang collected at Joshua Tree National Park in the United States.
These
works, inspired by the brochures’ faded bluish hues caused by prolonged
exposure to sunlight, were created using silkscreen techniques with oil-based
pigments on aluminum panels. The pale blue tones filling the exhibition space
go beyond mere color, symbolizing the physical transformations wrought by light
and time.
The
exhibition also features works by the artist, who expands the concepts of
"font" and "counter," often used as materials in his
practice, into the realm of sculpture. Viewers can also explore temporary
structures imbued with fluid continuity and potential, created through
silkscreen and printing techniques.

Moonsick
Gang received a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from the Gerrit Rietveld
Academie in Amsterdam in 2012 and a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from
Yale University in 2016. His works have been exhibited at various institutions
in Korea and abroad, including the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, Ulsan Art
Museum, Seoul Museum of Art, and Art Sonje Center. Internationally, his works
have been showcased at the Weltformat Graphic Design Festival in Lucerne (2021,
2015), the Brno Biennial in the Czech Republic (2014, 2012), and many more.
