P21 presents 《Balance
in Motion》, a group exhibition featuring seventeen
artists, on view through July 4.
The exhibition reinterprets the sculptural form of
the mobile — developed throughout the history of Western art — through the
contemporary formal languages of Korean artists, presenting a contemporary
sensibility toward balance and movement. The exhibition was organized in
collaboration with art advisor Minjin Chae.

A mobile is a sculptural form in which elements of differing
weights and materialities establish relationships within air and gravity. Here,
balance is not a fixed state, but something provisionally achieved through a
continual process of swaying and adjustment.
Through this structure, the exhibition suggests that the forms
of balance we confront today are likewise not fixed goals, but ongoing states
of negotiation. The participating artists approach this idea of “balance in
motion” through multiple layers of structure, relationship, and systems.

《Balance in Motion》 illuminates
the beauty of beings that seek their center flexibly while embracing
instability, rather than remaining perfectly still. Bringing together differing
materials and structures, speeds and rhythms, the exhibition reminds us that
the very process of creating balance and harmony in one’s own way amid the
imperfections of life can itself become a form of aesthetics.
