The Kumho Museum of Art is hosting the collaborative exhibition 《Clumsy Seamless》, curated by Jieon Lee, until November 9. The exhibition unfolds by splitting its title, “Clumsy Seamless,” into two concepts.

First, “Seamless” (hereafter, Seamless) is a term of praise applied when the use of technology is simple and connections flow smoothly. It functions only when accompanied by a high level of versatility, convenience, and aesthetic quality. Those striving to reach this state must remove every mysterious obstacle in their path. These obstacles arise from accumulated layers of overlooked pain, loose seams, delayed time, and the fatigue embedded in daily life.

Meanwhile, “Clumsy” (hereafter, Clumsy) refers to awkwardness, but it is not simply a deficiency. It encompasses the inevitable limitations and decay of the body, the fragments that fall away from sacralized or automated images, the jolts arising from the union of subject and object, and innocent mistakes. Such acts may hesitate, but they are never entirely passive. On the contrary, they actively question the image in which efficiency and technique have dissolved, bringing the pursuit of Seamless—otherwise focused solely on elimination—into a new dimension.

In this way, Clumsy and Seamless seem to stand in opposition, yet they are connected, like a beginning and an end. The exhibition 《Clumsy Seamless》 is anchored firmly in the present moment. Its works do not defer reality to update an expired past, nor do they sacrifice the present as a resource for the future.

《Clumsy Seamless》 weaves together the links of individual lives—or works—that can be understood through pride and integrity, entirely in the dimension of the immediate, lived experience.
