Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) is presenting the special exhibition 《Mneme Topos》 at Seo-Seoul Museum of Art through July 12, marking the opening of the museum.

The exhibition illuminates the narratives of time inscribed in both the process of the museum’s construction and the southwestern districts of Seoul as records of memory. To this end, it structures the temporalities of the region and the museum in a multilayered framework, exploring the dynamics that arise between record and memory as different layers accumulate and overlap.

Through the resonance of artworks that reinterpret—within an artistic context—the identity and lingering scenes of western Seoul accumulated through processes of creation and disappearance, as well as the temporal gaps that arise between them, the exhibition constructs a multilayered structure of time, space, and communal memory surrounding the establishment of the Seo-Seoul Museum of Art and its environs.

In addition, by placing artworks in interstitial spaces beyond conventional exhibition areas—such as the museum’s learning space, lobby, loading dock shutter, and lawn yard—the exhibition expands conventional notions of exhibition space and proposes new possibilities for experiencing art.
