Gana Art is pleased to present the group
exhibition 《The Garden of Forking Paths》, which brings together artists whose practices engage with the
liminal spaces where different realms overlap, on view through August 24.
The exhibition draws its title from the
eponymous story by Jorge Luis Borges, which suggests that time does not flow
linearly and that the world is structured through a complex layering of
countless choices and their outcomes.
Goo Gijeong, Suh Dongwook, Song Sumin, and
Chung Soyoung understand reality as a multilayered structure, irreducible to a
fixed or unitary interpretation. Their work explores the intersections of
nature and technology, isolation and relationship, the everyday and disaster,
and the past and the present.

Goo Gijeong critically examines the
perception and representation of nature by humans through digital images,
creating works where reality and virtuality merge. Suh Dongwook depicts the
solitary figure of the modern individual, exploring the complex emotions of
loneliness and the human desire to fill the void of isolation.
Song Sumin juxtaposes disparate scenes of
disaster and daily life, presenting landscapes where personal experience and
societal crisis meet. Chung Soyoung traces the imprint of time within place,
focusing on human defined territories. Her practice draws together geological
observation and geopolitical narrative.

The exhibition begins with two entrances,
allowing visitors to enter either through the back, where works by Song Sumin
and Suh Dongwook are presented, or through the front, where Goo Gijeong’s works
are installed. At the center of the gallery, where these two paths converge,
Chung Soyoung’s work is placed and prompting reconsideration on the notion of
boundaries.
Each work offers a distinct perspective on
reality, while opening onto multiple lines of interpretation. Mirroring the
structure of Borges’s fictional garden, the exhibition unfolds as a network of
narrative possibilities. Set within the endlessly diverging paths of life, the
exhibition traces the contours of a world composed of layered realities.
